Pia Saengswang Moffatt

Pia Saengswang Moffatt is co-founder of Thunder Dragon Fund, a non-profit focused on improving resilience in the Himalayan adventure travel industry. Pia has over 20 years of senior leadership experience in philanthropic strategy and management, education, advocacy, social entrepreneurship, and filmmaking. She helped to launch the first social entrepreneur-focused venture fund in the United States – The Echoing Green Foundation – working directly to recruit, train, and support innovative entrepreneurs. To date, EGF has funded over 300-plus non-profit start-ups worldwide in the environment, education, public health, and youth service. As one of the original directors at The Broad Foundation, a $1 billion Los Angeles-based education fund, Pia developed and oversaw a wide range of venture philanthropy initiatives focused on dramatically improving public education in the United States. Pia personally managed an annual philanthropic portfolio in excess of $50 million working to expand quality charter school networks, improve education data quality, and showcase excellence. As a strategy consultant, Pia’s clients have included The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, The Prudential Foundation and The College Board, among others – managing diverse initiatives at the White House, federal, state, and district levels. As a filmmaker, Pia’s produced documentaries for the Getty Conservation Institute as well as a multiple-award winning independent short film, “First Daughter.” Pia attended Mount Holyoke College, Harvard Law School and The American Film Institute.
